Botox for Gummy Smile

"After seriously contemplating surgery, I am so happy that there is an alternative treatment that works so well!"  Joanna W., Cardiff (May 2013)

Some people naturally have a high lip line when they smile. If this is combined with a deeper maxilla (upper jaw bone) the result can be the appearance of a gummy smile.

Often people who have this natural appearance are a little self conscious despite the fact that there is nothing wrong with their teeth and they try to limit their smile. Fortunately, Botox is a very quick and easy way to reduce the appearance of a gummy smile without any invasive surgery.

What Is a Gummy Smile

Gummy Smile is a phenomenon that when some people smile, their upper lip elevates too far above their upper teeth, exposing gums and producing an unattractive smile.  This happen due to several causes.  One of the causes is hyperactive muscle which elevates the upper lip.  Occasionally, the gummy smile is also aggravated by a thin upper lip that further contributes to the problem by exposing the upper gum even more.

Fortunately, gummy smile can be simply and effectively corrected by Botulinum toxin, popularly known as Botox, injection to reduce the activity of the muscle the elevate upper lip.

The cosmetic effect of Botox was first documented as early as 1989 and was approved by the FDA in 2002. It is now regular used by many, both male and female, as it is less intrusive and less artificial in appearance, than traditional form of treament such as plastic surgery.
